12-year-old is being lauded for holding gamer friend accountable for homophobic comments

While it's never easy to lead an LGBTQ+ lifestyle, having a supportive family sure does help. Not many queer people are blessed with such understanding family members especially, younger siblings who not only comprehend but also support the lifestyle. However, one sister was proud when her younger brother condemned his homophobic friend's comment about queer people. Capturing the video of the 12-year-old boy's conversation with his friend, the elated sister—who goes by @bummblebee__ on TikTok—shared it with the world.

The since-deleted video from 2021 was reshared by an X (formerly Twitter) user, Fifty Shades of Whey (@davenewworld_2) and it gained insane traction. The video shows the 12-year-old playing an online video game with his headphones on and simultaneously giving his homophobic friend an earful. In an earlier video posted by his sister, the boy had told his friend, "So you just blatantly admit to being homophobic? You realize that means I automatically don’t like you because that’s really f****d up," as per the DailyDot. This video on X was a continuation of that conversation where the boy specifically defended his lesbian sister's lifestyle choice. "She’s gay and you blatantly said you don’t support gay people," the brother said.

Knowing that his friend wasn't quite certain about the LGBTQ+ lifestyle, the boy began teaching some sense to him. He pointed out that LGBTQ+ was more than just gay people and added that it included lesbians and trans people too. His friend on the other side was arguing that even if a man becomes a trans, he is still a guy. At one point, the 12-year-old was frustrated and his friend was trying to end the argument. "I genuinely do care and I want to have this argument," the boy said and proceeded to ask his friend if he wouldn't be friends with queer people. 

The boy standing up for his sister stole many hearts on X and thousands of comments poured in. "Let’s not forget this kid is in the peak years of pressure to conform to your friend group, of being made fun of in school or dropped by friends for being different. This boy is braver than most adults," said @LoriPet51018179. "This boy is our future and it makes my heart happy. Could do without the gun video game, but I’ll take the win for right now," remarked @MeganKell. "Protect this young man at all costs! He, and those like him, are our hope for a better future. Good job parents and other adults in his life that helped raise this incredible ally," added @BreeZeeMomma.

The proud sister couldn't believe that her brother went viral online. The siblings used this widespread recognition to raise money for a charity. Speaking of the young boy's remarkable perspective on LGBTQ+, the sister told the media channel, "It’s not that difficult to explain these things to kids. A lot of younger kids, after you explain these things to them, are way more polite and will follow pronouns more than older adults." Looks like, it's the adults who have to learn from these young minds that brim with wisdom and sensibility.
